Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil have expressed grief over the deaths due to flash floods in the State.

A Chief Minister’s Office release said Mr. Manmohan Singh had telephonically enquired about the situation and was apprised of emergency rescue and relief operations by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

The latter informed that from a feared 41 dead as of Saturday morning, the figure had been revised to 32, with nine people who were earlier washed away being rescued.

He said he would fly over to the affected districts on Sunday.

Over the telephone, Ms. Sonia Gandhi was understood to have expressed anguish over the flood situation, especially the deaths and asked specifically if there were any women among the dead or in the missing persons list.

The Union Home Minister promised over the telephone to Dr. Reddy that all possible Central assistance would be rushed to the State.
