Six missing fishermen return safely

Search on for two others reported missing Rs. 1 lakh aid for family of dead fisherman
Kakinada: Six among the eight fishermen who have been reported missing in the sea off Kakinada coast with their fishing boats caught in the cyclonic weather, have reached Bhiravapalem Island safely.
They returned to their homes in Parlaopet here on Saturday bringing cheers to their family members. The District Revenue Officer Mohan Raju said that search was still going on for two other fishermen reported missing in the sea.
The Coast Guard vessel is carrying on the search operations. The DRO said that ex gratia of Rs.1 lakh would be paid to the family of fisherman Lakshmana Rao whose body was recovered on Friday, as already announced by the Collector M. Subrahmanyam. Of the total amount of Rs.1 lakh, he said, Rs. 50,000 was from Apadbandhu scheme and the remaining from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Depression strong
Meanwhile, the district has been experiencing inclement weather owing to the impact of depression that remained strong even after crossing the coast.
The district has received a total rainfall of 1013 mm with the average rainfall being 16.9 mm. During the last twenty-four hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, Kotananduru has received the highest rainfall of 80.2 mm.
