CPI bid to subvert eviction drive alleged
Staff Reporter
MUNNAR: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Saturday alleged that the CPI was trying to subvert the anti-encroachment campaign in Munnar.
Speaking to presspersons after a visit of the area, Mr. Chennithala called upon the Ministers for Forests and Revenue, both representing the CPI in the State Cabinet, to stand down since they were, according to him, under the shadow of suspicion in the eyes of the people.
Any attempt at clearing encroachments without touching the offices of the CPI and the CPI(M) in Munnar would have little credibility, he said.
“Already the failure of efforts on the part of the Special Task Force (STF) to evict all encroachers in the Pothamedu area, after an initial action, has generated suspicion in the minds of the people,” he said. The KPCC chief asked the Government to publish the list of encroachers in the Munnar area.
Reacting to a question, Mr. Chennithala said the issue of encroachment in Munnar was championed by the Congress.
“It was we who took up the issue,” he said and added that the party would extend full cooperation to the anti-encroachment campaign by the LDF Government.
