Central aid to tackle chikungunya

BANGALORE: Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok on Saturday said the Union Government had sanctioned Rs. 2 crore to the State to take measures to check the spread of chikungunya.

He told presspersons here that about 80 to 100 cases of chikungunya, including 60 in Mysore, had been reported in the State so far. The outbreak of the disease in a locality in Mysore was mainly due to the fact that a majority of the people in that area hailed from Kerala. Many of them regularly went to their native State where the disease had been reported, he said. — Special Correspondent
