Mofussil colleges excel in science disciplines

Bharathiar University results prove to be an eye-opener

Coimbatore: The recently published undergraduate results of the Bharathiar University have proved to be an eye-opener.

Disproving the fact that colleges in cities churn out the best as compared to their counterparts in the districts, mofussil colleges have come up with toppers in many subjects.

Government colleges have also proved their mettle.

Toppers

In the 18 science disciplines the university had offered, city colleges have produced toppers only in six, while the rest have gone to colleges in Erode, Tirupur and Udhagamandalam. Erode colleges had toppers in six disciplines, Tirupur in five disciplines and Udhagamandalam got one.

Among the toppers, women outshone men taking 16. R. Manuchandran from Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, topped in the B.Sc. Electronics and Communication Systems, while Saikumar from Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, topped in the B.Sc. Visual Communication (Electronic Media).

Girls stole the cream. Following are those who stood first in the subjects mentioned in brackets:

(Mathematics), Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore; Geethasuji S (Statistics), CBM College, Coimbatore; Yuvarani N (Physics), Vellalar College for Women, Erode; Jayashree NS (Chemistry), Sri Vasavi College, Erode; Dhivya R (Bio-chemistry), Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore; Sireesha MPR (Microbiology), Tirupur Kumaran College for Women, Tirupur; Sakthi Priyam G (Nutrition and Dietetics), Vellalar College for Women, Erode; Mohanambal R Animal Science and Biotechnology course (Vocational – Sericulture)), LRG Government Arts College for Women, Tirupur; Indubala S (Biotechnology), Nandha Arts and Science College, Erode; Rekha J (Animal Science and Biotechnology), Emerald Heights College for Women, Udhagamandalam; Jayalakshmi D.
