IMs to be seeded in age-group tournaments

CHENNAI: All International Masters will henceforth be seeded in all age group national championships including the under-19 and under-25 categories.

A decision to this effect was taken, at the suggestion of the Tamil Nadu unit, by the All India Chess Federation at its AGM held here on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu’s unit’s another suggestion that the Commonwealth Championship organisers should provide for one free entry along with boarding and lodging to all participating nations was also approved by the parent body, according to a press release from the AICF Secretary D.V. Sundar.

Mr. Sundar said that the Andhra Pradesh Association had suggested for increase in the representation from each state (from two to four) in the nationals and also wanted the AICF to take up with the University sports board for the conduct of a separate all India inter-varsity competition for women.

The AICF has identified five centres — Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad — for organising national coaching camps with the support of the SAI. At the meeting IM Manuel Aaron, presented a copy of a new publication the ‘AICF Chronicle’ to the AICF President N. Srinivasan. Aaron is the editor of the publication. International Arbiter. V. Kameshwaran briefed the members on the salient features of the internet chess club www.chessclub.com. — Special Correspondent
