CHENNAI: Journalists and representatives of business and industry on Saturday paid tributes to R.Gopalakrishnan, business editor of The Hindu, at a condolence meeting in the city. Senior journalists, including his colleagues, recalled the “self-effacing and simple” demeanour of Gopalakrishnan and lauded him not only as a thorough professional but also as a human rights activist, who never feared to espouse his causes. Gopakrishnan’s family, including his wife and two daughters, were present at the South Indian Chamber of Commerce, the venue of the meeting. “He epitomised a certain belief in the power of positiveness,” said V. Suresh of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, adding that Gopalakrishnan was staunchly opposed to communal forces.
