Dream day for Vikram Guru

Salem: Vikram Guru’s all-round effort (106 not out and five for 16) and Gautam Raj’s 97 helped host Salem thrash Thoothukudi by 141 runs in the TNCA under-15 inter-district (stage 1) cricket tournament for A-zone teams at the Neelambal School grounds here on Sunday.

At the Salem Steel Plant Recreation Club grounds, V. Vijay Anand (104) played a crucial role in Kancheepuram’s thumping 298-run win over Thanjavur.

At Nagapattinam, a massive opening partnership of 341 between R. Kugan (160 not out) and J. Pradeep (143) was the highlight of Cuddalore’s 268-run win over Virudhunagar in a ‘D’ zone league encounter.

Easy for Coimbatore

Host Coimbatore scored a comfortable seven-wicket win over Tiruvannamalai in a F-zone encounter at the PSGIMSR grounds.

At the TNAU grounds, Ramanathapuram crashed to its second straight defeat, going down tamely to Perambalur by nine wickets.

At Tirunelveli: Karur 73 in 23.1 overs (M. Kannan five for 19) lost to Tirunelveli 75 for two in 13.2 overs (Paulraj 37 not out).

Tiruchi 170 in 45.3 overs (R. Santhoshraj 36, K. Surendr three for 33, B. Vivek three for 20) lost to Tiruvarur 172 for seven in 49 overs (S. Saravanan 52, B. Balachander 42 not out).

D-Zone: At Nagapattinam: Cuddalore 357 for two in 50 overs (R. Kugan 160 not out, J. Pradeep 143) bt Virudhunagar 89 in 33.1 overs (Sivaprakash three for 25).

Nagapattinam 185 in 46.1 overs (Vignesh 31, Ajith Kumar four for 23) bt Dharmapuri 102 in 28.5 overs (Mansoor three for 15, Faiyasudeen three for six).

F-Zone:

At Coimbatore: Tiruvannamalai 137 in 46 overs (Nazeer 43, S. Karthi four for 17) lost to Coimbatore 140 for three in 39 overs (Surender 33).

Ramanathapuram 60 in 26.4 overs (G. Anand four for 19, Mahesh four for 17) lost to Perambalur 61 for one in 7.3 overs.
Thousif scores win

Thousif of Champions Billiards Academy (Coimbatore) with a first frame break of 28 defeated Viswam of BP (Tirupur) 2-0 in the opening round of the fourth non-ranking snooker tournament for the H.A. Sivalingiah Rolling Trophy in Coimbatore on Sunday.

Senthil scalps seven

Medium-pacer M.N. Senthil Kumar’s spell of seven for 28 helped Rainbow Jeeva Cricket Club score a comfortable 116-run win over Metro ‘B’ Cricket Club in the TNCA-CDCA fourth division league for the Tirupur Textiles Trophy at the PSG Tech grounds here on Sunday. E. Yesuraja (five for 10) was the pick of the bowlers for Metro.
