dated June 25, 1957: Federal Party’s stand

PATNA:

After two days of deliberations at Jaffna, the central committee of the Ceylon Federal Party, with Mr. C. Vanniasingham in the chair, resolved to reject Prime Minister Solomon Bandaranaike’s four-point proposal for “securing reasonable use of Tamil language” and reiterated its stand for complete equality of the Tamil-speaking people with the Sinhalese people. It expressed its willingness to enter into negotiations with anybody on the above basis for an honourable settlement of the language problem.
