BANGALORE: With the monsoon setting in, the Indian Institute of HAMS has come forward to provide a much-needed communication system for places that could face the brunt of cyclones and floods. Trained volunteers
The institute, which functions on the premises of the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, has a set of trained volunteers who can extend the two-way communication system thorough the medium of radio waves in the times of emergencies. “The institute is prepared to move to and rough it out in the vicinity of such emergencies and provide the much-needed communication support for relaying messages from the homes of victims and also coordinate with the local administration,” said Director of the Institute S. Sathyapal. Two teams of volunteers successfully set up this system during the relief operations in the tsunami-affected areas in Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Mr. Satyapal said the institute had prepared a list of items that would form a part of “Emergency kits”. The items include equipment, batteries, mobile or portable antenna, solar cells, personal protection equipment and medicines. Appeal
The institute has appealed to the concerned authorities, non-governmental organisations and people to join together to form effective teams for relief operations. For more information, contact Mr. Sathyapal on ham7388@gmail.com, call 9448302677, or visit www.indianhams.com.
