Celebrating power: The ‘Min Marathon’ organised as part of TNEB’s golden jubilee in Chennai on Sunday.
CHENNAI: A marathon as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was organised here on Sunday. Over 550 men participated in the 12 km ‘Min Marathon’ that began from Elliots Beach. Cross-country runner and army personnel R. Alfred was the first of the 93 participants who made it past the finish line near the Munroe Statue. Mr. Alfred, who belongs to the Madras Regimental Centre in Ooty, took 41 minutes and 53 seconds. He was followed by S.S. Santhakumar of Vadapalani, who finished second (42 minutes 41 seconds). Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Club’s ( Coimbatore) R. Ramesh finished his run in 43 minutes and one second, and was third. Awards for the top five runners of the marathon and consolation prizes for ten other participants would be presented at the TNEB’s golden jubilee function on July 2. “We are planning to make this [marathon] an annual event,” said TNEB Chairman Hans Raj Verma.
