Diabetes diagnostic centre inaugurated

Bangalore: The Rotary Diabetes Diagnostics Centre, a joint project of the Samatvam Asha Diabetes Centre, Rotary Club Jayanagar and Rotary Club Minneapolis University, was inaugurated here on Sunday on the premises of the Samatvam centre.
Inaugurating the new centre, Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya said diabetes was a huge problem in the country and the burden of the disease was growing.
There was a need to develop centres of excellence for diabetes in the country which will cater to all strata of society, including the marginalised, he said. The centre has been set up with a matching grant of $ 26,000 from the two Rotary Clubs and the focus of the centre is “Power of Prevention.” It has a radiology unit, including X-ray and ultrasound and treadmill, a heart clinic, eye clinic, foot clinic and kidney clinic.
There are also special clinics for children and pregnant women suffering from diabetes, S.S. Srikanta, diabetologist and Medical Director of Samatvam Endocrinology Diabetes Centre, said.
H. Gunda Rao from the Rotary Club Minneapolis University and Rotary Governor, District 3190, Srikanth Chatrapathy, were present.
