Mangalore: Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited will soon be deploying additional “monsoon gangs” to Chikmagalur sub-division, its Managing Director S. Sumanth has said. Power supply in many areas of Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts was disrupted on Saturday following heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds. Restored
Mr. Sumanth told The Hindu on Sundaythat MESCOM had restored power supply in most of the affected areas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. However, the problem was serious in many parts of Chikmagalur district. A 33-kV tower h ad collapsed near Koppa sub-station plunging Sringeri, Koppa and Kalasa in darkness. Steps had been taken to remount it, he said. More than 200 electric poles had been uprooted in Balehonnur. Trees had fallen on power lines in many places in Chikmagalur, he said. Mr. Sumanth said the inflow at the Linganmakki reservoir had reached 70,000 cusecs compared to 4,000 cusecs, earlier.
