TAMBARAM: Relatives of a physically challenged 14-year-old boy, who was reportedly kidnapped from the Tambaram railway station a few days ago, are frantically searching for him.

T. Ilavarasan of Sendurai in Perambalur district had dropped out of school after VI Standard. He ran way from home after he was allegedly chided by a relative. Ilavarasan’s relatives, who were seen distributing copies of the boy’s photos to visitors near the All-Women Police Station and the Tambaram Police Station, said he was spotted at the Tambaram railway station on Thursday.

Police said the boy was taken away by a rag-picking couple and after keeping him with them for a couple of days, they allegedly ‘sold’ him for Rs. 4,000 to a person. The couple were detained and attempts to ascertain information about who took the boy away proved futile.

Police said investigations were on to trace the boy. They said the boy was physically challenged and his left leg was crippled.

Boy attacked

A school boy was attacked by a group of youth at the Railway Quarters.

The boy was returning home in East Tambaram, when a gang of three youth intercepted him inside the Railway Quarters.

The gangsters started frisking the boy, telling him they were ‘Railway Policemen.’ They snatched a mobile phone and assaulted him when he tried to resist.

They then fled in an autorickshaw.

However, with the help of his friends, the school boy managed to pursue the gang up to the Tambaram Sanatorium railway station.

A patrol vehicle of the Chitlapakkam police station intercepted the gang, recovered the mobile phone and handed it back to the school boy.

The suspects, all in their early twenties, were detained. In another incident on Saturday midnight, J. Kumar, 35, was mugged by two unidentified men, who also took away gold jewels and cash from him. The victim was walking across the railway track above the limited- use subway near the level-crossing near Tambaram. The spot is an active centre for anti-socials with several crimes going unreported, residents of Irumbuliyur said.
