COIMBATORE: Volunteers of the Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) and those of the National Service Scheme at the Sarvajana School joined the residents of five colonies in Ward 10 of the Coimbatore Corporation to clean up their locality. The programme was organised under the association’s Alagana Kovai programme that aimed to create a garbage-free city through public participation. The association had already covered 30 layouts across the city under this programme and each area was revisited on the third Sunday of every month. Apart from removing garbage, the programme also focussed on educating the people on how waste generated in their houses could be converted into manure, a release from the association said. The release said that Sunday’s programme covered Kasthurisamy Naidu Layout, Mehta Layout, Viswanathan Layout, Rajalakshmi Nagar and Balan Nagar that were located along Masakkalipalayam Road.
