Agro-forestry models for different agro-climatic zones
Economically viable technologies to be transferred

Coimbatore: The Indian Council of Forestry and Research and Education, Dehradun, will join hands with the Forest Departments to create van vigyan kendras in all States, Council Assistant Director-General Balbir Singh said here recently.

He was chairing the technical session of the regional extension workshop on ‘Developing Strategies and best practices guidelines for extension activities in Forestry Sector’ organised by the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding.

Mr. Singh said that under the 11th Plan, sustainable agro-forestry models for different agro-climatic zones would be developed. Economically viable technologies would be transferred from laboratory to land.

Institute’s Director M. Surya Prakash called for extension activities to transfer the technologies from laboratory to land.

C. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, explained the strategies adopted for successful implementation of extension activities.

He suggested that the krishi vigyan kendras functioning in all districts be linked for dissemination of information.

The vice-chancellor emphasised the need for involving stakeholders, farmers and industrialists in discussions on forestry research to prepare user-defined research programmes.

He advocated promotion of insurance cover for tree crops.
