TIRUPUR: Following the closure of metre gauge train services between Pothanur and Madurai, the Tirupur Rail Passengers Association has urged the Southern Railway authorities to operate the Coimbatore-Nagercoil weekly express without further delay. Announced in budget
The train service was announced in the railway budget and a summer weekly special was running on this area via Tirupur, Erode, Karur and Madurai. Help the aged
The association appealed to the Railway Minister to introduce the Coimbatore-Nagercoil weekly express, as announced in the budget, to help aged persons, women and children. A lot of commuters depend on trains as a very cost-effective way of transport. With the absence of train service thousands of people who travel regularly will have to depend on buses.
