Organisation to hold a meet-cum-expo on solar energy in July.
Kochi: The Pune-based World Institute of Sustainable Energy (WISE) has declared 2007 the Year of the Renewable Energy Law for India. The institute is launching a nationwide campaign to champion the use of renewable energy. The model renewable energy law is not another electricity law, according to G.M. Pillai, director-general of the institute. Besides addressing electricity issues, the model law aims at integrated energy planning, streamlining developmental and promotional measures for sustainable energy. Such a law is the need of the hour, he says. As part of its campaign on renewable energy, WISE is organising a conference-cum-exhibition on solar energy in Bangalore in July. The world is moving towards serious energy shortages and harmful climate changes. Solutions to both these crises are interlinked. Clean and diverse energies in the renewable sector have emerged, but the developing world is apparently hesitant to adopt them. It is in this background that the meet on solar energy is being held, WISE says.
