Plotting a welcome for Potter

Staff Reporter

DC Books works on a ‘magical’ script for the launch of the last in the series.

KOCHI: The Wizards are back. This time, they are going to fight it out, to the end. Preparations have started to welcome them -- for the final encounter.

The city is going to witness a grand show to mark the release of the last in the series of Harry Potter novels. Joining DC Books in the launch is Magician Samraj. “Harry Potter will appear on stage during the 90-minute show at the Town Hall and present items,” the magician said.

He, along with the editorial team at DC Books, is currently working on the script to include the world of wizardry where Harry Potter tries to outlive the plans of Lord Voldemort. Die-hard Potterians are eagerly waiting for July 21, when Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows, the final episode of the series comes out. Distributors are aiming to sell 25,000 copies across the State and leading players have already launched teams to grab their share of pie. “The booking will cross 2,000 in a day or so. We expect 7,500 bookings on or before July 21,” said Ravi D.C., of DC Books. All shops of DC Books will open at 6 a.m. on July 21.

“We have contacted schools to take bookings from students. They will get the book when they reach the school on July 21. Special arrangements for delivering the books to schools have already been made,” said Mr. Ravi.

Just Fiction – the Book Store is planning to stretch this to another level. It is inviting essays from children aged between 10 and 15 years. They have to come up with a 2-page essay that should answer two questions -- Why Harry Potter series has enthralled you and how do you compare this book with other books you have read. There is a clause attached to the competition. These essays should be prepared without help from parents and teachers.

Top five writers will get the new book absolutely free. The essays should reach Just Fiction, Diamond Towers, P.K. Road, Perumanur, Kochi – 15, on or before July 16.

The M.G. Road branch of Paico has 350 books coming to its racks, of which 300 has already been booked.
