Tree planting

Sir, — Some months ago, the BBMP planted about 3000 saplings in some layouts of Banashankari ward. But, many of them died for want of water. Now that the rain has started, the authorities must replant them by making use of the tree-guards which are intact.

Besides, auto rickshaws are parked in long queues hindering smooth flow of vehicles on 11th main, next to Swami Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living Divine Centre, 5th block, Jayanagar. Food selling on footpaths must be banned as it is not a healthy practice. Raju

Sir, — The banks have increased interest rate on fixed deposits upto 9.5 per cent, recently without increasing the rate on savings bank account that stays at 3.5 per cent. The savings bank account holders are required to maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000. If the balance dips below the prescribed minimum balance, huge penalty are charged during quarterly accounting. As most of the savings bank account holders belong to middle class, the authorities are requested to address this disparity.

Sir, — Between Syndicate Bank colony and Andhrahalli circle there are no proper streetlights. In the event of any problems, the people are required to go to Tavarekere to lodge a police complaint. It is therefore requested that a police station be opened in Andhrahalli at the earliest.
