BJP opposes BC Commission hearing

Correspondent

MAHBUBNAGAR: The Backward Classes Commission, that came here on Sunday evening to collect opinion of Muslims and BC organisations on reservations to the former under the BC quota, faced stiff opposition from the organisations’ representatives and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.

As soon as Commissioner Chairman D. Subrahmanyam and members Lakshman Mudiraj and Krishnamohan started the hearing, BJP leaders and representatives of BC organisations submitted their representations, opposing the move.

BJP district president and secretary K. Yadagiri Reddy, K. Ramulu, and State party general secretary V. Jhansi Rani voiced their opposition.

They alleged that the Government while ignoring the demand of 36 BC communities in the Hindu community for inclusion in the list for over two decades is craving to provide five per cent reservation to Muslims.

This is nothing but a move aimed at getting political mileage, they alleged. BC and BJP leaders raised slogans against the Commission in the meeting hall and demanded that it go back.

The Chairman and members left the hall, but they returned after 30 minutes. Meanwhile, those who opposed, also left the venue.

Later the Commission collected representations from Muslim organisations that opposed caste-based reservations within the community saying that there were no castes in the Muslims community. Municipal Chairman Obaidullah Kotwal and Congress Minority Cell convenor Haneef were among those who also submitted their representations.
