Holiday for schools in Kodagu today Control rooms set up in various places of the district
Rising water level: The Cauvery flowing to the brim near Siddapur in Kodagu
Madikeri: People of Kodagu heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday with let-up in rain that has been lashing the district for the past two days. A large number of trees have been uprooted and electric poles have collapsed, disrupting traffic and plunging the district into darkness. Roadblocks
Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company and the Public Works and Police departments with the help of the people are clearing roadblocks. High voltage
Power supply was restored in many parts of the district, including Madikeri, on Sunday. But high voltage caused damage to electronic gadgets. Traffic on Bhagamandala-Madikeri road and Bhagamadala-Aiyyangeri road resumed on Sunday with the level in the Cauvery receding at the Sangam in Bhagamandala. Overflowing
However, the Cauvery is overflowing at Bolibane on Napoklu-Murnad road. Copious rain has increased the water level in the Cauvery. Almost all its tributaries are flowing to the brim. “We are doing our best to remove the crashed electric poles and tree branches and restore power supply,” Executive Engineer of Chammundeshwari Electricity Supply Company K. Srinath told The Hindu. Deputy Director of Public Instruction Basheer Ahmad has declared holiday on Monday for all schools in the district. St. Joseph’s English School, St. Michael’s School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Kodagu Vidyalaya have declared holidays on Monday and Tuesday in the wake of heavy rain. Damage
At Ponnampet in south Kodagu, the asbestos roof of three rooms of the Government Junior College has been damaged. A house has been damaged at Tyagarajanagar in the city here. People were seen thronging to the Abbi Falls near here on Sunday to view the magnificent sight following copious rain near here. Help
