TIRUCHI: The Anna Science Centre – Planetarium, Tiruchi, got its Vigyan Prasar Edusat Facility of the Department of Science and Technology, and Try Science – Around the World, a system containing details of science centres in over 50 countries, inaugurated on Friday.

The Edusat facility would be of immense help to students in and around Tiruchi to frequently interact with renowned scientists through video-conferencing, while the Try Science facility worth two lakh rupees donated by IBM India Private Limited, would provide students with insights into varied subjects including space and deep sea explorations.

Presiding over the programme and inaugurating the facilities, the Collector, Ashish Vacchani, urged students to develop scientific temper, saying that the education system was aimed at developing them into independent thinkers. Students could become leaders by thinking differently, he said, emphasising on their responsibility to build the image of India worldwide.

Offering felicitations, the Chief Educational Officer, R. Muthukrishnan, said Indian youth have the potential to make a global impact with their knowledge power. Youths must wrest the abundant opportunities in the current situation, he said, noting that the facilities at the planetarium provides the students the required motivation to emulate achievers such as Sir C.V. Raman and the President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The event also marked the commencement of the ninth Planetarium Programme, ‘Our Astounding Universe’.
