TIRUCHI: A group of dyers and handloom industry representatives were exposed to the intricacies of quality dyeing of cotton yarn at a workshop organised by the Textiles Committee under the Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Programme here on Sunday. Twenty-four dyers and handloom industry representatives from Tiruchi, Musiri and Karur participated in the meeting. Experts in the field made presentations on ensuring quality in the dyeing of cotton yarn, cost reduction, reducing wastage of chemicals and also the latest advances in the field. The participants were also briefed on the future products such as perfumed fabrics. A.C. Kalidas, managing director of Confident Process, Tirupur, presented a demonstration on dyeing. K. Paranjothi, founder president, Chennai Silks, S. Periasamy, Deputy Director, Textiles Committee, Coimbatore and Venkatesh of Britacel Silicones were among those who spoke. The cluster development executive G. Ramesh Babu said a training programme on natural dyes would be organised soon for dyers from Tiruchi region. The four-year cluster development programme has got a financial sanction of Rs.2 crores. Mr. Babu also disclosed that the Common Facility Centre, proposed to be established under the Integrated Handloom Cluster Development programme, would be set up after the completion of a study undertaken by the Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM). The report from BIM is expected within the next couple of months.
