BHUBANESWAR: The 18-month-old son of a Surat-based diamond trader, who was kidnapped last week, was rescued from a village under Cuttack district on Sunday morning. The boy, Pranshu Siroya, was taken to his family living in Surat by a Mumbai-bound flight in the afternoon. The accused abductor Rushi Swain had, however, fled the spot before a joint team of Gujarat and Orissa police reached Panasbasta village under Banki police station. Crime branch inspector of Gujarat police V. J. Jadeja said, "we are relieved that we have found Pranshu. The boy is in good health." After the rescue, the boy was admitted to Khurda hospital to ascertain his health condition. Pranshu had been kidnapped by Rushi, a security guard serving in Saptarshi Society on L H Road in Surat last Sunday. The police team was constantly tracking a mobile phone from which Swain had been making calls. Later, it was found that the cell phone belonged to his brother-in-law. The Gujarat police assisted by Khurda and Cuttack district police had conducted raids in several places before tasting the success. Khurda Superintendent of Police Amitabh Thakur said two person had been detained in this connection. Another team of Gujarat police, however, was looking for the Swain, who, sources said, had demanded Rs 4 lakh from Pranshu’s family. The kidnap of the boy had taken political hue with Gujarat government giving highest priority on rescue operation.
