Bangalore: Janata Dal (S) president H.D. Deve Gowda has said that UPA, NDA and UNPA have “trifled the dignity” of the constitutional office of the President by making out the position to be a “loyal tool in the hands of any political party”. Mr. Deve Gowda said in a press release that though the Constitution provided contest in the absence of a consensus, an honest attempt should be made to select a person on the basis of trust and goodwill. The JD(S) chief alleged that the three political formations had failed to treat President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and one of contenders to the post Bhairon Singh Shekhawat with dignity. — Special Correspondent
