Belgaum: Sleuths of the Anti-Narcotic Cell arrested two persons allegedly involved in smuggling heroin and seized 2 kg of the narcotic worth Rs. 2 crores in the international market, early on Sunday. According to the police, acting on a tip-off, police inspector S.S. Chitguppi and his staff of the Karnataka Anti-Narcotic Cell arrested Md. Iqbal Abdul Rehman Siddiqui (39) of Ambalgatti in Bailhongal taluk and Basavaraj Chandrashekhar Jagnur (39) of Kakti village near Belgaum city while they were carrying the drug at the Central Bus Stand. The heroin, which was being carried in two packets of 1 kg each and labelled as “Blue Diamond Tea” and “Gupta Tea,” was brought from Rajasthan for delivery in Bangalore. The Anti-Narcotic Cell has registered a case and taken up investigation. It may be recalled that the Belgaum police in the last week of May seized substantial quantity of “hashish” and arrested four persons involved in smuggling it to their customers abroad.
