CHENNAI: Cricketers from seven ICC associate members including UAE, Malaysia and Afghanistan are in the city to participate in the MRF-Asian Cricket Council High Performance programme, organised at the MRF Pace Foundation complex here from June 25-July 4. Announcing this at a press conference, Roger Binny, former Indian cricketer said the prime emphasis was to fine-tune the game of these cricketers, and focus in particular on fitness. “Teams from the Asian countries need to work on fitness. We are working on them so that they can effectively compete to make it to the World Cup in a few years,” he said. “The focus at this camp will be on fast bowling, batting and fitness.” Team members from UAE, Oman, Malaysia, Singapore, Afghanistan, Nepal and Hong Kong will train at the camp which will coincide with one of Dennis Lillee’s coaching visits. Former Pakistan fast bowler Iqbal Sikander, who has worked with several players from Afghanistan, said many positive signs had emerged from that country. — Special Correspondent
