CHENNAI: India has a good chance of winning the title in the Asian Central Zone volleyball championship being held in Islamabad. India maintained its winning streak, the latest being over Turkmenistan and now has only one match left, against Maldives. What brightened India’s hopes is defending champion Kazhakstan’s win over hitherto unbeaten Iran in five close games. In the process, Kazhakstan, which has a match to go against Pakistan, is placed third with a point- quotient of 1.13. The defeat notwithstanding Iran, which completed its matches, is in front with 1.17 point-quotient. Close behind Iran is India with a quotient of 1.154. India needs not only to win over Maldives but must do so giving away minimum points to keep its chances bright.
Other results: Kazhakstan bt Iran 25-22, 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 18-16; Pakistan bt Maldives 25-15, 25-13, 25-18.
