Vikram slams another hundred

Salem: Vikram Guru (161 not out, 125b, 15x4) came up with yet another century to steer host Salem to an emphatic 361-run win over Thanjavur in the TNCA under-15 inter-district (stage 1) cricket tournament for A-zone teams at the Salem Steel Plant Recreation Club grounds here on Monday.

Batting first, the host piled up 449 for three in 50 overs, thanks to Vikram and A.V. Shiva (134, 120b, 12x4). In reply, the visitor folded up cheaply for 88.

At the Neelambal School grounds, Vijay Anand (111) notched up his second century of the season to help Kancheepuram score a 153-run win over Thoothukudi. Prem Prabhakar (110 not out) played his heart out for Thoothukudi.

Salem and Kancheepuram qualified for the second stage from this zone.

Coimbatore through

Host Coimbatore coasted to a 10-wicket win over Ramanathapuram to enter the second stage in style at the PSGIMSR grounds on Monday.

After bundling out Ramanathapuram for 70, Coimbatore scored the required runs in just 4.5 overs in their F-zone encounter.

The second team is yet to be identified as both Tiruvannamalai and Perambalur have finished their engagements with six points apiece. The TNCA will decide the qualifier.

Good spell by Jidhu

At Theni, Jidhu Venkatraman’s spell of seven for 21 helped Sivagangai register a two-wicket victory over Dindigul in the B-zone.

In another match, host Theni registered an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Nilgiris for its third successive win.

Tiruchi beat host Tirunelveli by 49 runs in the C-zone. Both the teams qualified for the second stage with two wins each.

At Nagapattinam, Harish Babu’s five-wicket haul was the highlight of Cuddalore’s nine-wicket win over Namakkal in the D-zone.

At Tirunelveli: C-zone: Tiruchi 124 in 42 overs (Adersh 33, Sudalaimuthu three for 22) bt Tiru nelveli 76 in 30.5 overs (Raghavendran four for nine). Tiruvarur 116 in 35.3 overs lost to Karur 117 for seven in 39.5 overs (S. Saravanan three for 22). At Nagapattinam: D-zone: Virudhunagar 77 in 27.1 overs (Faiyasudeen four for two , Thoufiq three for 20) lost to Nagapattinam 78 for one in 23 overs (Aravind 31 not out). Namakkal 88 in 27.2 overs (Harish Babu five for 20, J. Pradeep three for nine) lost to Cuddalore 91 for one in 12.3 overs (J. Pradeep 45 not out, R. Kugan 35).
