Siachen hero killed
New Delhi: A junior commissioned officer and a hero of the Siachen conflict, Naib Subedar Chunni Lal, was killed after shooting down five militants near the Line of Control in North Kashmir on Sunday.
Naib Subedar Lal of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, displayed exemplary courage and leadership when he charged at a group of heavily armed militants who had sneaked across the LoC on Sunday night.
According to official reports here, Naib Subedar Lal killed three militants with his bayonet and gunned down two others, before falling to bullets.
Vir Chakra awardee
Naib Subedar Chunni Lal had earlier been awarded the Sena Medal for his role in the capture of the key Bana post at a height of 21,153 feet on Siachen glacier and a Vir Chakra for peacekeeping operations in Sudan. — PTI
