KADAPA: Former Minister R. Rajagopala Reddy on Monday demanded sanction of old-age pension to farmers and agricultural labourers beyond 60 years of age. Speaking at a dharna organised by Bharatiya Kisan Sangh in front of the Collectorate, he wanted pensions granted to farmers and agricultural labourers on a par with Government employees, as they worked hard all through their lives to produce foodgrains. The Government had been disbursing pensions to the tune of Rs. 4,000 crore to Government employees, besides paying lakhs of rupees towards retirement benefits, he said. The Central Government’s grant to ‘pavala vaddi’ scheme for farmers could be used for the pension scheme, Mr. Rajagopala Reddy suggested. He wanted the relief and rehabilitation package to kin of farmers who committed suicides restructured on the lines of Vidharba. Similarly, he demanded loan waiver of Rs. 25,000 for farmers, as done in Karnataka. The former Minister demanded rescheduling of crop loans and grant of fresh loans to farmers in 16 districts in the State and input subsidy of Rs. 6.50 crore to those whose crops withered away in 2006.
