Two budding openers on a record partnership of 341 runs

TIRUCHI: It was a dream day for two young cricketers from the Cuddalore district, R. Kugan and J. Pradeep. They put on a mammoth 341-run partnership in 48.5 overs for the opening wicket against Virudhunagar in a Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) inter-district under-15 league cricket match at Nagapattinam on Sunday.

Kugan, a student of St. Joseph’s HSS, Cuddalore, remained unbeaten on 160, while Pradeep, a student of Jawahar Matriculation HSS, Neyveli, was finally dismissed for 143. Their effort helped Cuddalore score a huge win over its opposition.

Heaping rich praise on the performance of the duo, the secretary of the Cuddalore District Cricket Association, E. Kootharasan, said that both the openers have been doing well consistently and that their performance on Sunday was a reward for their dedication and hard work.

“They sent the Virudhunagar attack to all corners of the ground and their batting lived up to our expectations. The effort of the youngsters is indeed commendable,” Mr. Kootharasan added.
