Talks with Maharashtra
Bangalore: Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi will visit Mumbai on Tuesday for talks with his Maharashtra counterpart to ensure that water released from the Koyna dam in Maharashtra during the monsoon does not intensify flooding in the border districts of Karnataka.
This was announced by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy here on Monday after a meeting with top officials on the floods in some parts of the State and the relief measures to be initiated.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Maharashtra Government’s sudden decision to release water from the Koyna dam two years ago had created led to loss of crops and livestock and misery for the people of Bagalkot, Bijapur and Raichur districts. The Government did not want the situation to recur, he said. — Staff Reporter
