Left's poser on U.S. warship

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Left parties on Monday demanded that the Manmohan Singh Government explain the reasons for permitting the proposed docking of U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier ‘USS Nimitz’ in Chennai. “We would like to know what compulsions the Government had in taking such a decision. The Government should explain,” Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury told correspondents here. CPI national secretary D. Raja echoed similar views. He said the warship was deployed in the Persian gulf as part of the American strategy to threaten Iran. “Keeping in view the whole development in the West Asia region and particularly American stance against Iran, we are concerned about the Government’s decision,” he said.
