NEW DELHI: Two young men from Kashmir have been arrested by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly being in possession of 13 gm of cocaine. The police had received information that a deal would be struck near a hotel in the Nizamuddin area here over the weekend. On Saturday, they laid a trap near the hotel and two persons, later identified as Sabir Ahmad (27) and Maqsood (35), reached the place around 10 p.m. They looked suspicious and were apprehended. During search, the police allegedly seized 6 gm of cocaine from the possession of Sajad and 7 gm from Maqsood and arrested them. Handicraft shop
During interrogation, Sabir purportedly told the police that he had been running a handicrafts shop at Paharganj in Delhi for the past seven years and gradually took to drug-peddling to make easy money. He supplied cocaine and charas to foreigners staying in nearby hotels and to other customers as well. He later fled Delhi after his friend was arrested for drug-peddling, but returned four months ago and resumed his activities. Infamous peddler
Maqsood, a vendor, has been staying in Delhi since 1989, but became involved in drug-peddling only a year ago, the police said. He allegedly procured the contraband from an infamous drug-peddler, Naqibullah, who was later arrested and then died in Tihar Central Jail. After his arrest, Maqsood found a new supplier in Vijay Kumar Sharma. However, he was also arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. Similarly, three other young men -- Devender Kumar, Arvind and Salim Khan – have been arrested and 850 gm of heroin has allegedly been seized from them. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the three near Hanuman Mandir in Janakpuri.
