BANGALORE: As a mark of their commitment to the 100th recorded investiture ceremony, the newly selected prefects of Bishop Cotton Boys’ High School drafted a pledge on Friday. The significance of the moment was not lost on them: the prefects’ book has been maintained since 1907.

The solemn ceremony began with the procession led by principal John Ellis, followed by the prefects. Col. John Ellis then administered the oath to school captain Anesh Shetty, head of day scholars Niranjan Srinivasulu and the head of boarders Mohit Agarwal. The school captain administered the oath to other leaders and prefects. The young leaders took the mantle of responsibility with commitment. As a token of its appreciation, the school gave a scroll, a badge and a tie to the prefects.

Len Shepherd, an old Cottonian and a prefect of 1941 batch, was the chief guest. He told the young leaders to uphold the high standards set by the school over the years. Recalling interesting anecdotes of his time, he said the Cottonian spirit would remain with students forever.

Col. Ellis said that a committee headed by him chose the new leaders and their overall performance was the only consideration for selecting them. Anesh Shetty said the prefects would work as a team and they would assist each other in discharging their duties. Niranjan Srinivasulu and Mohit Agarwal said that although it was a daunting task to monitor the 6,000 students with diverse cultures, the teachers had given them confidence to deliver the same.

The East-West School, Basavanagudi celebrated Founder’s Day recently. It was the tradition of the school to invite an alumna as chief guest for the function. Shakeela Hanif was the chief guest at this year’s function. The students recited a few poems penned by Elizabeth Tenbroeck, the founder. They also sung a few bhajans, which were very close to her.

The leaders for the academic year were chosen on the day. Amoghavarsha. M., was the school captain, while Madhuri. M. S., the vice-captain. Vishal was chosen the sports captain, while Sachin. R. K., the sports vice-captain. The leaders took a solemn oath of discharging their duties with diligence and loyalty.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Nagarjuna Vidyaniketan, Yelahanka bestowed the student leaders with the mantle of responsibility at the investiture ceremony held recently. Desikachar, Director, Nagarjuna Education Society was the chief guest, while founder member Sridevi Rangaraju presided.
