THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The priority sector credit disbursement in the district by commercial banks, cooperative sector and other financial institutions in the last fiscal (2006-07) has touched Rs.2295.06 crore, Additional District Magistrate K. Surendran told a meeting of the District-Level Banking Review Committee here on Saturday. The total bank deposits in the district as on March 31, 2007 amounted to Rs.15,306 crore while the advances crossed Rs.11691 crore. At 76 per cent, the credit-deposit ratio for the district is ahead of the State average of 70 per cent, he said. The priority sector disbursement included Rs.1,130.67 crore to the agriculture sector, Rs.86.24 crore to the industries sector and Rs.1,078.62 crore to the services sector. The total priority sector target was Rs.2,186.76 crore. More than 2,200 families in 12 block areas were assisted under the SGSY scheme while 2,580 educated youth were sanctioned credit under Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY). As many as 2,878 families were given housing loans under the Bhavanasree programme of the Kudumbasree Mission and 10,804 Self Help Groups were given aid to the tune of Rs.71.89 crore.
