The decision of the Railways to use the outer space of the train coaches in the EMU for displaying public advertisements is a good move. Notifying the displayable spaces in the coaches for public advertisement augers well to augment the resources to railway. I have also seen some advertisements in the city buses in Chennai. Now, that with the introduction many new buses, the State Transport Corporations may also consider for allowing some conspicuous places in the buses for advertisements, so that these transport corporations could defray some portion of the maintenance and fuel costs from out of the revenue derived from the advertisement without much burden to the common public. R. Muralikumar, Srirangam Bad road
From Ammamandapam, the condition of the road up to the South Gopuram is in a very bad condition. It is very hazardous to the public to get into the main road by any mode of transport. Roads are dug up quite often and there is little space to move. It is very congested and many a time the road is blocked by buses. There is an uncovered manhole over the bridge near the Srirangam Water Works which is left uncovered for many months. Will the authorities concerned look into these problems. P.N. Jagannathan, Srirangam Erratic water supply
The Cauvery Water supply to the residents of Chozhan Nagar near North Kattur which comes under Pappakurichi Panchayat is very poor. Residents have deposited thousands of rupees for house connection and paying water tax regularly every year. The people residing near Uyyakondan canal are not at all getting sufficient drinking water. The water flow is very less and it takes more than 20 minutes to fill up a bucket. The water supply is given in different timings everyday and it will be off weekly once. In spite of the repeated requests and petitions given by the residents of this area, no action is taken till date. It is high time to set right this problem by the authorities concerned. The water supply is to be given at least for 45 minutes everyday with more water force in pipe line. Janakimaindhan S. Raj, Tiruchi Increase frequency
Now that the transport corporation has commenced town bus services from Srirangam to Junction via Srinivasanagar and T.V.Koil through railway over bridge, It will be convenient if the frequency on this route is increased, at least to begin with between 9 to 10.30 and 17 to 18.30 hours, so that office-goers may find some time to save some time apart from keeping punctual attendance. Veenaprasad, Tiruchi Road condition
No day passes without news of death of two-wheeler riders hit by heavy vehicles and consequent action by the State on the accused after inquest and other formalities about the circumstances leading to the accidents. Since it is also a fact that the collision takes place in many cases due to the un-usability of both sides of the road due to pits or encroachments necessitating driving in the centre of the road, it is essential to include in the report the condition of the spot of accident so as to fix the responsibility of action on the erring staff of the department concerned for non repairs / on encroachers, which will go a long way to lessen the number of such mishaps. K. Srinivasan, Tiruchi Water supply
Drinking water has not been supplied in our area for the past one week. From April onwards it is being supplied on alternate days. It was brought to the notice of the Corporation authorities, but no action was taken so far. I request the concerned authorities to take immediate action. S. Vadivel, District Secretary, Tamil Nadu Consumer Federation, Subramaniapuram Tiruchi Excess fare
As the over bridge was under construction at Ondipudur-Coimbatore, all the buses were plying to Coimbatore-Singanallur bus stand through an alternative roundabout route near Ondipudur and hence it was charged Rs.66 from Tiruchi to Coimbatore. Now the over bridge work is completed and all the buses are plying through this bridge only, straight to the destination. But the excess amount charged before the completion of the bridge remain unchanged. The actual fare to Coimbatore from Tiruchi was only Rs.60. It is the duty of the government to direct the transport authorities to charge the old fare when all the buses are plying straight without rounding Ondipudur. Will the government look into this matter in reducing the fare? S. Rajagopal, Tiruchi “Boy Surgeon”
We are horrified to hear the “Boy Surgeon” performing caesarean section on an unsuspecting pregnant woman and his doctor-parents unashamedly showing the performance procedure CD to IMA doctors. The Collector ordering RDO enquiry is okay to start with but the boy should be put to lie detector test in Bangalore lab as the CD is now damaged. For these two heinous acts. the doctor-duo should be debarred from practice and their medical degrees be withdrawn. T.M. Renganathan, Srirangam Reckless driving
This to bring to the urgent attention of the authorities about the danger posed due to reckless driving, especially by private buses in the Srirangam railway overbridge stretch. The buses coming from the T.V. Koil side are the major offenders in this regard. The buses are supposed to stop at Gandhi Road four- road junction as it is one of the main bus stops before the terminus. Though a caution signal is installed near the bus stop, the bus drivers pay scant regard for the same. It is also surprising to find that the main road is not at all manned by the traffic police for the better part of the day leaving the show free to the bus crew. I request the authorities to immediately take steps to erect speed breakers near the Srirangam side of the over bridge to curb speeding and past traffic police at least during peak hours. J. Anantha Padmanabhan, Srirangam Pantry cars needed
Indian Railways, to provide more accommodation in trains, plans to do away with pantry cars, even in long distance trains, Train No.1043 Kurla-Madurai Express and Madurai-Kurla trains do not have pantry cars now. The time to be covered is more than one-and-half days and the food provided at intermediary stations are sub-standard. Even the coaches are very old. Senior citizens travelling in the train cannot run in platforms to get what they and the platform vendors cannot attend every coach. I request the Railway authorities to introduce pantry cars in the train and run trains with new coaches. V. Santhanagopalan, Tiruchi Evict vendors
Srirangam is not only an important tourist spot but also a pilgrimage centre located in the heart of Tiruchi city. But to reach this place either by a two wheeler or a four wheeler is a Herculean task as the roads are in a damaged condition and occupied by vendors. I request the authorities concerned to do the needful to rectify these problems for the welfare of the devotees. G. Rajesh Gopal, Tiruchi Operate one counter
All nationalised banks close the cash counters for half an hour for lunch break. This causes inconvenience to the customers. I request the banks to keep open at least one counter during lunch hours. N. Alagappan, Tiruchi. Ban plastic carry bags
The common man’s living is worst hit by plastic carry bags. Drainage channels, water bodiesare choked by accumulation of these covers. When cattle consume the plastic bags, it proves dangerous to them. The only way to bring about a permanent relief is a total ban on production of carry bags. Will the Government act seriously in this regard? Dalmiapuram Ganesan, Tiruchi.
