Two-day protest in front of Finance Ministry

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Joint Action Committee of Accounts and Audit Employees and Officers Organisations will observe a two-day fast beginning Wednesday demanding implementation of the arbitration award on grant of higher pay scale to accounts and audit cadres with effect from January 1,1986.

The protesters would observe “Struggle Commencement Day” on Thursday by organising a daylong sit-in in front of the Union Finance Ministry.

Among other things, the Committee has demanded an interim relief of Rs. 1,000, an end to discrimination in the matter of appointments on compassionate grounds, and stopping of all downsizing and privatisation moves.

It has also demanded that the new pension scheme be withdrawn, casual and daily-wage workers be regularised, and that the Central Government Health Scheme not be replaced by medicare insurance.
