KOLKATA: Another round of State-level all-party talks to restore peace and normality at Nandigram has been ruled out “for the present” by the Left Front, senior leader of the All-India Forward Bloc, Ashok Ghosh, told The Hindu here on Tuesday. Mr. Ghosh had organised the first such meeting on May 24. No conclusion was reached as Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee walked out of the meeting. Mr. Ghosh said that the socio-political process that had been initiated for restoring normality at Nandigram would continue. “All-party talks are being held at the local level and the possibility of convening one at the State level will be considered only if required. For the present, there is no such plan.” Chemical hub
The West Bengal Government is determined to set up a chemical hub but is yet to reach a decision on where and when, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said here on Tuesday. “It will take a little more time.” An earlier move to set up the hub at Nandigram in Purbo Medinipur district was called off in the face of opposition by a section of villagers. Subsequently, the views of all political parties having representation in the Assembly were sought on a possible alternative site.
