MANCHESTER: Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is on the verge of taking charge at Manchester City. The 59-year-old Swede was completing the final stages of contract negotiations on Tuesday with the London-based advisers for prospective City owner Thaksin Shinawatra. Eriksson may sign the deal before the former Thai prime minister builds up his stake to 75 per cent, allowing him to delist City from the London Stock Exchange. Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Eriksson had already agreed in principle to a three-year deal at the Premier League club, but Thaksin’s advisors have denied this. Last week Thaksin had his bid for £81.6 million accepted. In 1997, Eriksson agreed to join Blackburn Rovers, but instead joined Lazio. — AP
