Gagan in the van

Coimbatore: Delhi’s Gagan Verma took the sole lead with a level par 72 in the LG Coimbatore amateur golf championship, for the GKD Gold Cup, at the Coimbatore Golf Club course here on Tuesday.

Simarjeet Singh, the favourite in the absence of Anirban Lahiri, had four birdies but dropped shots on the return leg to ruin his card. He ended the day with a one-over 73 and in the second position.

The Golf Foundation-sponsored Delhi’s Rudresh Sharma played a creditable round but a couple of bogeys on the return leg saw him finish the day in third place at two-over.
