Community hall for HIV patients likely

CUDDALORE: It has been proposed to build a community hall at a cost of Rs.25 lakh at the Capper quarry for the benefit of the HIV affected persons, according to Rajendra Ratnoo, District Collector.

The Collector was addressing a workshop on the HIV here on Tuesday. He said the community hall would be built with the financial contribution from Life Help, a service organisation.

As per statistics 1,762 persons were found to be HIV positive in the district, of whom 620 had enrolled themselves with the HIV Circle to have regular interaction. A total of 171 persons had been put on the drug regimen.

Blaze Kannan, director of Life Help, said his organisation would construct a hospital at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore at Mettupalayam on the Bhuvanagiri road to treat HIV patients.

District Panchayat Chairman Silambu Selvi, Joint Director (Health) Dr. Shanmugasundaram, Deputy Director (Tuberculosis) Dr. Chidambaram, Medical Officer Hafiza, and Child Development Project Officer Anbalagi participated.
