Low pressure over Bay of Bengal
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: A low pressure system lay over North Bay of Bengal off Orissa coast on Tuesday, threatening to intensify into a depression and cause yet another spell of heavy rains in the State.
Coastal Andhra and Khammam and Warangal districts in Telangana are likely to face the brunt of the monsoon fury this time. For the time being, Rayalaseema, the region that was drenched by the heavy rains till the other day, however, has not been listed as the likely target. According to a preliminary forecast by the Met Office, the low pressure area is likely to head towards the Orissa-North Andhra coast after gaining further pressure and velocity. The State Met Office has issued a heavy rainfall warning to all nine coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore, and the two Telangana districts - Khammam and Warangal.
The State Government, as a measure of abundant precaution, has placed all the coastal districts on alert and asked Collectors to keep a round-the clock vigil.
