Rural Development Department to fund the education of a differently-abled girl
Hyderabad: Moved by the plight of a differently-abled college girl pining to continue her education, the Rural Development Department has come forward to support her studies to complete her graduation. Rural Development Minister G. Chinna Reddy, who saw media reports about the poverty stricken Gojuru Lakshmi’s determination to complete the undergraduate course, directed officials to take necessary steps to help her out. Hailing from Velmal village in Nandipet mandal, Lakshmi, final year degree student of Women’s college, Nizamabad, was on the verge of pulling out of the college as she could not raise money for the fees and other expenditure. The girl suffering from congenital absence of upper limbs is pursuing her studies with encouragement from fellow village girls. Youngest of the four children of G. Gangaram and G. Posani, Lakshmi’s academic performance has been good. On the direction of the Minister, officials of the Indira Kranthi Patham visited the village and interacted with the girl and her parents. The girl requested the Government to support for attending tuition in English, Rs. 150 for bus pass and financial support to purchase books and admit her in a hostel. On receiving a report from the State Project Manager (Disability programme) of IKP, Dr. Chinna Reddy said the department would take care of all her needs till she completed her graduation.
