Dharna enters second day

PLEA: The dharna by BJP Raitha Morcha entered the second day on Tuesday, demanding that wild elephants in Hassan district be caught.

HASSAN: The dharna by BJP Raitha Morcha demanding the capture of wild elephants in Hassan district entered the second day on Tuesday. They were agitating in protest against the Union Government which denied permission for the capture of wild elephants in Malnad area of Hassan district.

This month, two persons died here after being attacked by elephants.

People are hesitant to send their children to school for fear of being attacked by wild elephants in Sakleshpur, Arakalagudu, Alur and parts of Belur taluk.

The demands of the morcha include paying Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the dead, compensation for the injured based on the gravity of the injury and also establishment of an elephant sanctuary in Hassan district. Mr. Ravindra said that the raitha morcha would continue the dharna until the wild elephants were captured.
