Staff Correspondent

The hospital needs 5,000 units of blood every year
Medical, nursing students are the main donors

HUBLI: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital plans to hold regular blood donation camps in association with other organisations to meet the blood requirement of its patients.

KIMS director M.G. Hiremath announced this while presiding over the valedictory programme of the “Blood Donation Week” organised by KIMS Blood Bank and KIMS Life Line here on Monday.

Dr. Hiremath said the hospital needed 5,000 units of blood every year. To meet the requirement, several blood donation camps were held and medical and nursing students were the main participants, he said. In the past, the hospital had conducted blood donation camps in association with Jain Youth Federation and other organisations, he said.

Mahendra Singhi, chairman of Sri Siddharoodha Swamy Math Trust Committee and president of All India Jain Youth Federation, said blood donation was the greatest donation. Mr. Singhi said the federation, which runs a free artificial limb centre at the hospital, would help in the new initiatives.

M.H. Kulkarni, head of the KIMS Blood Bank, spoke.

Mr. Singhi was felicitated on being elected chairman of Siddharrodh Math Trust. Pralhad Agasanakatti welcomed the gathering.

Harsha Suresh proposed a vote of thanks.
