BANGALORE: Komu Souharda Vedike members on Tuesday made it clear that they only sympathised with “the cause Naxalites are fighting for” and were not their supporters. The vedike was reacting to the statement of Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari naming some organisations and its members as naxal supporters. Talking to presspersons, K.L. Ashok, State secretary of the vedike, said it was unfortunate that the police official had branded some organisations and their members thus. He said the vedike, consisting of 150-odd organisations and members, had been fighting for the rights of tribal communities and taking up the causes of the downtrodden much before the naxals entered the scene. V.S. Sridhar, vedike member, guessed they were thus branded because the causes they were fighting for were the same. “The vedike does not support the militant way of naxalites,” he added. Mr. Ashok said the vedike was organising a protest rally in Chikmagalur on June 30.
