Protest against attack on Transco AE

HYDERABAD: The APSEB Engineers’ Association sought strong action against persons involved in the attack on Manjulatha, Assistant Engineer (Operations), Puttaparthi, at Pedapally village in Anantapur district while she was attending to a disconnection at a cinema theatre on Monday.

The theatre belongs to Sriram Nayak, sarpanch, allegedly among those who assaulted her along with MPTC Laxmi Bhai and his followers. A. Sudhakar Rao, secretary general, in a statement here on Tuesday, while condemning the attack as ‘brutal’ and ‘unlawful’, said engineers in various branches across the State were staging lunch-hour demonstrations against the ‘cowardly’ attack.

He warned that if no action was taken against the attackers, the association would launch a Statewide agitation. Mr. Rao said inaction against persons involved in such incidents had demoralised the employees.

YSR orders probe

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed officials to probe the incident. Taking a serious view of media reports, Dr. Reddy said stern action would be taken against the guilty.
